Add inventory products and starting stock
EnglishUpdated Sep 13, 2026
Inventory products represent the parts, fluids and other items your workshop uses or sells. Choose the measurement carefully before the product starts moving through stock.
Create a product
- Open Inventory → Products → Add Product.
- In General, enter the name, unique code, type and category. Add the brand, supplier and other identifying details where relevant.
- Choose Measured in for the stock unit. For example, a fluid may be counted in litres even if you buy it in cans.
- Set Usually bought as and Usually used as if you use packs or smaller consumption units.
- In Pricing & Tax, check the cost, sale price and applicable tax information. Costs and prices must not be negative.
- In Stock & Tracking, set the alert quantity and location. Enter starting quantity only for stock already on your shelf when you first create this product.
- Complete Variations or Combo Items only if they apply to the selected product type, then use Save.
Opening quantity creates starting stock at the entered cost. Leave it zero if you will receive the same stock through a purchase order; entering both would count the stock twice.
Maintain the catalogue
Use Inventory → Categories and Brands to organise products. Use Edit and Update for product details. After stock movements exist, the stock measurement cannot be changed and quantity is not edited directly on the product form.
What happens next
The product is available in relevant purchasing and job pickers. Its detail page separates On hand, Available and In use. Check the unit beside each figure before comparing quantities.
Troubleshooting
Duplicate codes or SKUs prevent saving. A pack or consumption unit from a different measurement family is refused. For a count correction, use Adjustments; for a delivery, receive a purchase. Do not create another product merely to bypass a locked measurement unit without reviewing the existing stock.
